Tips for Packing and Moving

Moving is a procedure that requires a lot of time and energy. You can do your own packing, however for apt execution of a process, proper planning is required. Therefore to ensure that the entire procedure is seamless, you need to start planning it at least six months prior to the actual moving activity. Proper planning and thinking over can save a person lot of time and can economically be beneficial as well.

Point of Start

Before beginning the planning for the shifting process, you need to make out what will actually be shifted and what will remain back. This again depends on your nature of move, it can be temporary or permanent, and even if it is permanent you may keep your original place as well. So you have to first understand what will move and what will stay back.

Collection of Supplies – After a clarified comprehension of what will be shifted you need to then find out whether you have enough package boxes that aptly fit the materials you will be carrying. These packing or moving kits can be purchased from online sources or from packaging companies as well.

Initial packing Items – The packing process should be started with items that you do not require immediately. Therefore, all those clothes and appliances that you will not be requiring right away should be put into packages first.

Give clarified Instructions – The sides and the top of the packages should be provided with proper instruction statements regarding the content and its supposed location. Also, small notes can be attached regarding the materials of the content, for example those which are fragile should be written like that so that the professionals moving the items can mentally be prepared. Another issue is regarding items that are required immediately after the moving process. The packages that contain these items should have a note written “open first” over them so that the packers and movers can act accordingly.

Forming an Inventory List – The boxes that will be transferred should be marked with numbers, and they should be ticked at the point of arrival. This way if a box goes missing, you can make out which number it is and thereby what content it carried.

Ensuring Safe Transfer – To ensure that the contents are shifted safely, you can follow the following steps:

Step 1: Attach stickers with each box to ensure that apt instruction for opening and handling are attached with each of the content.

Step 2: Clothes or towels can be wrapped around the fragile materials and then put into the packages. Such a step should however be accompanied with appropriate instructions, so that during opening the box the mover can unwrap it with proper care.

Step 3: Another option for packing fragile items like plates and picture frames is to wrap them within bubble wraps. They are inexpensive and can protect the materials through the presence of multiple protection layers present within it. After forming such wraps the items should be placed on their edges. Several layers of bubble wraps will prevent them from getting broken when they bump into each other while being carried.

Step 4: All stray items should be attempted to be packed together by taping them into bundles. This will aid in easy carrying and storing of these materials.

Step 5: When large furniture is being moved, make sure that all of its constituting items are kept together, for example the screws and bolts should be kept within small plastic bags along with other tiny items associated with the materials. The plastic bags should be self-locking in nature to resist accidental material flow and loss. This is true for items like table, where the legs should be strapped together with tapes so that they are bundled altogether and have no chance of being lost somehow. Also the legs bundle can be taped under the table along with the plastic carry bag which will prevent the legs from somehow getting damaged during the moving process. Small items like screws and bolts play significant roles in reconstructing the big furniture and their absence will make that procedure almost impossible to be executed.

Step 6: All furniture that can form scratches should be wrapped properly by protective padding. These include materials like coffee tables and table tops whose surface regions are often vulnerable to scratches and bruises during the shifting process. The materials for furniture padding can often be rented or purchased from storage facilities or companies performing moving activities. However, linens should not be used for the padding operations, because the linen material can become stained or be ripped during the procedure of shift. Therefore, the best option is to hire padding materials from a company which will also denote presence of an official from the company who can aid in executing proper padding procedure for the furniture items.
